Look- we base ourselves around metalcore, but the world of hardcore gave us SO much to play with this week.
We also say we are Asia Pacific- but not going to lie, Australia was on fire this week.
So this week, Five Fresh For Your Fridays has more hardcore than normal, along with more Australian music.
Are we going to apologise? Nah, these tracks rip. So without further adieu, and in particular order, let’s jump into it.
5. Volatile Ways- The Invocation of Doom
A little earlier this week we told you about the new track from Volatile Ways (have a read here) and a few days on, it still SLAPS. Face-meltingly heavy and brutal as hell, this band knows how to rip.
4. Indication- Cleanse Your Soul feat. Heaven Shall Burn
There haven’t been any single drops from Indication‘s debut album ‘Ataraxia Of The Phoenix‘ but we could not talk about new music this week and not include something from it. Giving the old school metalcore vibes, talking the kind of metalcore you would find in your local venues back in 2006- this track is one of the stand outs on the album. Plus a feature from German metal powerhouses Heaven Shall Burn? Outstanding. Indication hit the Tokyo hardcore scene last year, made up of heavyweights in the scene, so they are definitely worth checking out!
3. Terminal Sleep- Spineless
It is always phenomenal when a band can combine an extremely catchy groove with brutality. Melbourne/Naarm’s Terminal Sleep are masters of this. Crushingly heavy, rabid vocals and wild dynamics throughout- ‘Spineless’ may just be the bands heaviest offering yet. Oh and that old school thrash metal guitar squeal? WE ARE HOOKED.
2. Signals- ‘Exit Wound’
Adelaide/Tarntanya metalcore has always been exceptional, so to see these young guns carrying the torch is a dream. Signals, formerly stylised as Signv/s, have proven time and time again why they are one of the most formidable up-and-coming heavy acts in the country with this new release backing it up. It’s the first new bit of music we’ve heard from the lads in awhile and oh man, was it worth the wait.
1. SPEED- ‘The First Test’
Now. There is no way we could not mention this track. It has been on repeat since it dropped. Hardcore with a flute in the breakdown? The record scratch? The bass solo? The cowbell? The inspiring message in the lyrics- there is a reason why SPEED are taking over. Everything about this track works and works ridiculously good. There is no song, across the globe, that dropped this week that goes harder than this.
What tracks did we miss? Don’t be afraid to tell us!
As always, if you are in a band or a band you love has new music dropping in the next few weeks, let us know so we can make sure we do not miss it!
