Trigger warning: Sexual assault and/or sexual violence
RedHook. Alpha Wolf. That combination was always going to set tongues wagging. Well, no need to delve into your wildest music fantasies to imagine it, because it is here on RedHook‘s latest single ‘Cannibal‘.
While the band set out to create what they have described as a metal version of WAP, it is so much more than that. In an interview with Conor Lochrie for Rolling Stone Australia, vocalist Emmy Mack discusses how the track is a reclamation of positive sexual experiences. Mack has been open about her experiences with sexual assault, which she discusses in the track ‘Jabberwocky‘.
With ‘Cannibal’ she wants to break through the stigma and awkwardness of discussing sexual topics after dealing with assault. Removing the fear and shame, ‘Cannibal’ is about giving an epic blowjob- and man, are we here for that!
Other than its kinky lyrical nature, the track itself has an otherworldly level of sultriness. A Nine Inch Nailsesque industrial rock presentation, it is brought into even heavier realms with snarling vocals, a fun breakdown and guest feature from Lochie Keogh of Alpha Wolf.
And if the track is not enough to get your fired up, make sure you check out the HEAVILY censored video that accompanies it. It what the band assures is not just a marketing tactic, the original video was deemed to hot for the internet- but Ten Swords Media has ensured that we still get to enjoy it in some way.
You can stream the track here.
You can also catch RedHook out on the road in Australia this upcoming Aug/Sept.
