Thai metalcore middleweights Annalynn have just dropped their latest single ‘White Flags‘, a bold direction change from their previous work. This follows the departure of their main vocalist last year, which thrust the band into a chaotic period, one which almost spelled the end of the band.
“Trust was completely destroyed,” they shared. “But as time passed, understanding grew and we received a lot of encouragement that gave us the strength and motivation to continue making music again. We don’t expect this new song to be a success or anything big, this isn’t about that—it’s about rebuilding and doing what we love.”
It’s this humble attitude combined with their stellar musicianship that makes the return of Annalynn something special. Deciding to not lose momentum at a time when it would be easy to take a step back, the band decided to release this single as a four-piece, with the main vocal line being handled by guitarist Nuttapop ‘Pob’ Cheunsuktananun.
The anthemic lyrics are definitely the highlight of the song, embracing the change with a level of confidence and flair that shouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with their previous work. The personal nature of the track along with its positive message make for a powerful piece of modern art. There is no doubt that this track is going to get crowds singing along.
Lane Prenc, producer for bands such as Alpha Wolf, Void of Vision and Polaris, has done a stellar job mixing and mastering the track, with the individual parts all getting time to shine within a tight and focused wall of sound, with some 2000’s edge thrown in for good measure.
Musically, the track shows off a more melodic side of the band, with a back-and-forth guitar style in the verses. Writing around the challenges of doing main vocals whilst playing guitar results in a track that might just be one of the best introductions to the band for newer audiences. The rhythm section consisting of Nattbhol ‘Mong’ Larp-ar-parat and Eakaratch ‘Eak’ Kaewsomdej on drums and bass respectively gets a chance to shine with these arrangements, and fellow guitarist Supatchaya ‘Boss’ Sompong has some great lead moments, elevating the song.
‘White Flags’ is the beginning of a new chapter for Annalynn, one that promises to be their strongest yet. Catch them this Sunday in Bangkok for their comeback performance!
