The Sengoku modern metal maestros from Cebu SHVRIKEN are back with another havey single. Teaming up with Stephen Tan from fellow Filipino band The Rising Tide, this latest release ‘Black Sand’ is one the band’s most unique tracks to date.

Still embodying their signature sound of extended range guitars and endless groove, ‘Black Sand’ is an evolution of their previous work. Hitting us with dynamic vocals and a furious style, it is both catchy and hard hitting. Sticking with their themetics as well, with the name taken from the movie Ninja Assassin- where the protagonist uses black sand as his signature warning.

“The groove is still there alongside our traditional aggressive metal riffs and gritty vocals,” Shvriken explains, “but for this song, we asked Stephen to feature and sing the clean vocal parts.”

“Just based on his work with The Rising Tide and The Vast, Stephen was the obvious choice. He has the vocal prowess for a song like this and he exceeded expectations. He is the highlight on this track.”

Teaming up with Adam Bentley (Arch Echo, Plini, and Andy Cizek) to produce, mix and master was another big step for the band- giving us a refined and overall solid track.

“Adam Bentley was a joy to work with,” the band shared. “He knew exactly what to do and what kind of mix we were looking for. As expected, he blew us away with his next-level production.”

The release of ‘Black Sand’ is only the beginning for what the band has in store for us this year, so stay tuned. In the meantime, keep an eye out for the music video…
