In a collaboration that just makes sense, Sydney outfit Deficit have enlisted the help of UNITYTX frontman Jay Webster to take some cheeky shots at the wider scene.
Vicious new single ‘FYA’ pokes fun at the way some bands carry themselves and showcases the band’s gut punching heavy side.
“We notice a lot of bands spend so much time and energy taking themselves so seriously without actually having anything to say or any real experience to draw from.” Deficit explain.
“So as a tongue-in-cheek jab, we wrote a track with deliberately nonsensical lyrics laden with over-the-top angst and a barrage of expletives. Lyrically it’s how these artists come across to us. Musically it made sense to flex our chops a little and pair it with a pure metal track that is harder and faster than a lot of what we see out there. To sum it up – it’s an anthem for the art of saying nothing.”
Just over two minutes of fury, the single just adds to the already impressive discography this formidable act have been putting together over the years. With ‘FYA’ as proof, Deficit are poised to delve even deeper into the darker edges of their music, embracing that inner rage.
Rejecting the polished and overproduced modern styles as of late, the band are channelling authenticity, taking real influence from the corners of 90’s metal and nu-metal, hardcore and industrial.
We can’t wait to witness their continued evolution.
