Adelaide’s Akira Slide made a heck of a debut last year. Hitting us with their catchy, groove infused first single ‘Incisor’ and sharing the stage with some incredible Aussie names like Hands Like Houses, Future Static and Reliqua…the question is where do they go from there?
Well the quintet have followed up their infectious take over with the ambitious new single ‘[white line fever]’. A post-hardcore masterpiece with a head nod to their J-rock influences, this emotional driven release shows another side of their musical prowess. Once again, enlisting the services of alt. guitarist Simon Aistrope in production, Akira Slide are blazing a path of their own.
Frontman Joshua Julian states that, “[white line fever] is the other side of INCISOR‘s coin – both ruminations on dissociation, but diametrically opposed in so many ways. There’s a real sensitivity and vulnerability to the narrating voice in [white line fever], a pleading for connection and desire for things to be different. It’s certainly drawn from my own experiences with these issues and feelings, but I’m also writing from a more conceptual perspective with the character’s identity in mind.“
Following on from the concept that has dominated the bands persona, Julian also states how the single fits in.
“Narratively, [white line fever] is the chronological beginning of this story, where INCISOR is the end. At this point in the story, this character is desperate and frustrated, but still hopeful. I think you have to be hopeful to be desperate in the first place. There’s a certain optimism to desperation and in throwing the proverbial “hail mary”. Losing that hope and seeing these feelings turn cynical, nihilistic, calloused and dangerously detached from the people and world around them is where we end up in INCISOR.”
So what is to come next?
“As for what fills in the gaps between these two parts of the story? We’ll just have to wait and see what is soon to come.”
Along with a strong focus on music quality, the band is ensuring that they are the ultimate package. With the [white line fever] music video helmed by Adelaide director Jon-Luc D’Lima (Cove Street, Pest Control, Oscar the Wild), and the single artwork, from Sydney artist Natassia Adamou (Alpha Wolf, Stepson, The Gloom In The Corner), continue to highlight AKIRA SLIDE‘s emphasis on a strong and iconic aesthetic.
‘[white line fever’] is out now on all streaming platforms.
