It’s super amazing that female-fronted bands are getting the love they deserve, but what about the bands that have women in more than just a vocal role? In this really male-dominated genre, it feels like a real treat to find a heavy band filled with badass women.

So we decided to put together a list of some bands you may or may not have heard of that are predominantly women.

The Beautiful Monument

Hailing from Newcastle, Australia, The Beautiful Monument has been running circles around the Australian alternative metal scene. Supporting acts like Evanescence and Escape The Fate, if this band is not on your radar they very well should be! With a new album dropping soon, we are always looking forward for something from them.

Vilify

Still in Australia, and actually still in Newcastle, but we could not make this list without Vilify. Yes, you may see some familiar faces from our last recommendation but they are dipping into a very different sonic palette. It’s been a few years since we’ve heard from Vilify but you cannot go past their last EP Fever Dream.

RAZE.

A big, warm welcome to the new girlies on the block; it’s RAZE from Thailand. Recently dropping their blistering new single ‘Break Me‘, these badass ladies are making real waves. As they are quite new to the scene, we don’t have much to share other than check out their debut track and show them some love!

Moth In Lilac

Blending components of goth, metal and numetalcore, Moth In Lilac is a Tokyo-based band with members from across the globe. Inspiring their eclectic sound and catchy riffs, they have quickly caught the attention of many fans. Right now they are playing a few lives around Tokyo, so hopefully we will be hearing some new music soon.

Nemophila

Look, there are a few things we need to say here. We are going to stay in Japan for a couple of recommendations, and honestly, Nemophila should already be on your playlist. In case they aren’t, though, this band has been a cult favourite amongst Japanese metal enthusiasts for a while now. Gritty vocals and a punchy sound, they are dripping with that sultry hard rock attitude. They also recently just dropped a new single, so it’s the right time to mention them.

HANABIE.

Again, another band you SHOULD be listening to already if you are a regular NOISE ‘N’ VISUALS reader, but we just wanted to REALLY make sure. The Harajuku-core Queens have been redefining both the “girls band” criteria and Japanese metalcore. Like Nemophila, they also dropped a new single recently so give it a whirl.

Rolling Quartz

Despite us recently launching a pop side of NNV Media, we are still are here to remind you that Korean music is more than just pop! Rolling Quartz have been flying the flag for Korean rock for some time now and they just keep getting better and better! Sometimes you just want a bit of hard rock with a bad ass attitude and that’s exactly what Rolling Quartz bring.

This is by no means a comprehensive list, merely one to get you started.
