What a wild end to August.
It’s been a week where some of the OGs and leaders of Asia metalcore have dropped some absolute heaters.
We also have some new kids on the block ripping it up in both Asia and Oceania.
Here are five tracks that are making our list.
ANNALYNN- ‘Resurface‘
The Thai Kings of metalcore remind us why exactly they are that band with their new single ‘Resurface’. Well and truly establishing themselves in this new era for the band, frontman Pob is settling in nicely as vocalist. ‘Resurface’ is classic ANNALYNN with a bit of a nu-metal twist.
“Resurface tells the story of battling a lost self, trapped by control and the emptiness that gradually devours happiness in life,” explains the band. “It depicts the journey of reclaiming freedom and rediscovering one’s true self in the right way, without being forced by anyone anymore.”
Vassline- ‘Dead Ahead‘
South Korean metalcore OGs Vassline are celebrating their 30th Anniversary with the ripper release ‘Dead Ahead’. Giving us that true classic metalcore feel: sick riffs, gang vocals and of course, breakdowns. There is a reason this band has been able to last 30 years in the scene and they are showing us with this one. Uncompromising, unrelenting and true to themselves, we can’t wait to see what else is in store for Vassline.
Dreameater- ‘Regicide’
Oh South Australia, what is in the water lately? You are dropping heat left and right, and Dreameater are adding to it. If you haven’t checked them out, well, ‘Regicide’ is the perfect introduction. Forgive us, all our eloquence and flowery language has gone out the window because this is a straight up banger. This ones for the gamers, the ones who like those kind of proggy/djent metalcore riffs and/or anybody who likes breakdowns. And damn, those breakdowns go HARD.
g6pd- ‘The Hex’
We are heading back to Thailand for this one. Our favourite lads from Chiang Mai g6pd are back with their newest addition, ‘The Hex’. A real heavy offering this time. Aggressive and deep growls, a ridiculously fast rhythm section and riffs on riffs galore. It’s a little thrashy and all the way metal. Blast beats, solos and guttural growls. WOW. Probably one the darkest releases from this band we’ve heard for awhile, but we are digging it.
Show Me The Light Again- ‘ShadowSelf’
There is just something about that real melodic hardcore sound. It seeps right to the core of your soul and hits home in a way no other music really does. The debut release from Japanese project Show Me The Light Again proves that. ‘ShadowSelf’ has all the conventions of the genre. Guitars that dance between pretty and fast, vocals that speak straight to your soul and a chorus that crescendos into something bigger than itself. Don’t just take our word for it, listen for yourself.
If your band has something coming out over the rest of the year, let us know. Drop us a line so we can share your music with the world.
