Japanese metalcore heavyweights Coldrain have just dropped a brand new song featuring The Used‘s Bert McCracken.
‘The Poison’ is a timely release because the last time we had the Nagoya band on our shores in Australia was when they were the openers for the The Used and Papa Roach back in 2023.
This time, Coldrain will be back in Australia as the opening act for German metal techno party boys Electric Callboy and horror heads Ice Nine Kills. So if you are unfamiliar with the group, then let us bring you up to speed and tell you why you should be there early.
Coldrain burst onto the Japanese scene in 2007. From Nagoya, a city that is both known as one of the more ‘boring’ cities in Japan and the city where some of the best bands come from, they quickly garnered a reputation for explosive live shows and heavy but melodic music.
Going between post-hardcore and metalcore, over their almost 20 year career, they have cemented themselves as one of the premier bands in the genre in Japan. Being the go to support for big international acts, they also have been touring across the planet and selling out shows all across their home country.
Featuring Masato ‘David’ Hayakawa on vocals, guitarists Sugi and Y.K.C, RxYxO on bass and drummer Katsuma, these five musicians have become some of the most respected in the highly acclaimed Japanese metalcore scene. On record, they are polished and perfect. Offering anthemic, melodic and very easy to go back to music. Live, they are another beast. Heavy, explosive and performing with every second of their 19 years of experience- when you see them once, you will not hesitate to catch them again.
This is why fans keep coming back. They even now have their own festival in their hometown, held every three years BLAREFEST (you can check out our coverage from this year here), that attracts punters from across Japan and the rest of the world. Not only have they had a plethora of solid releases, but their songs have also been used in various anime, such as:
- ‘Vengeance’- Ninja Kamui
- ‘New Dawn’ – Bastard!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy- Hell’s Requiem Arc
- ‘Bloody Power Fame’– Bastard!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy
- ‘Mayday’ feat. Ryo Kinoshita of KNOSIS- Fire Force
- ‘Feed The Fire’– King’s Game The Animation
- ‘We’re Not Alone’- Rainbow
- ‘8am’- Hajime No Ippo: New Challenger
Coldrain first made an appearance in Australia at the 2015 edition of Soundwave, following Crossfaith as being one of the first Japanese metalcore bands to get acquainted with an Aussie audience. This next run will only be their third time coming to our shores, surprisingly but we are sure that this one might be the last time they will be an opening act.
We can only tell you so much; you have to experience it for yourself. You can catch Coldrain in Australia supporting Electric Callboy and Ice Nine Kills on tour starting this week!
Tickets are still available but are very close to selling out across the country. Make sure you get them now here.
